Vizsla Points list

As we humans tend to be naturally competitive, it doesn't take long before we start trying to rank one football team over another, one horse over another - so of course the same holds true for the Vizslas who compete in Field Trials.

There are different categories based on age, and whether they are in Amateur Stakes or Open Stakes.  In the Puppy/Derby this category is for dogs that compete and points are awarded for Open Stakes only - up to two years of age.  Points are awarded for each dog beaten depending on the placement received.  First place is four points, Second three points, Third two points and fourth one point.  For example, if ten dogs compete the dog that wins first place beat 9 dogs and gets four points for each (9 x 4) or 36 points.  Second place would have conquered 8 dogs at three points each (8 x 3) or 24 points etc.

The same methodology works in Amateur Gun Dog and Open Gun Dog rankings.

Our last litter (Nellie x E.T) has done quite well.  We had four in the litter and here are the current rankings.

Thanks very much to Skip Wonnell for his database efforts!

Ranked #1 - Willowynd's Rebel-Ette "Pearl"
Lovingly owning Tim Heydorff & Karen Bravender

Ranked #5 - Willowynd's Arctic ET Express " Hank"

(can I go again - pleeeeze???)

And Ranked #13
(which doesn't do her justice as she was pulled from competition after destroying the competition, including her brother)
Willowynd's Scarlet Letter - "Scarlet"

Way to go KIDS!  We're very proud of their achievements thus far and look forward to getting them on the big dog lists!

A nice Sunday at home

The weather was nice this morning.  There was a light breeze and though the forecast was to get hot today, the morning stayed relatively cool.  Janet and I had a chance to take out the dogs for a little bird work.

Tessa is Pregnant - and most definitely slower than usual, but she still wants to work, and really enjoys it.  So do we!

This video is a little longer download, but higher resolution.

Hope you enjoy!

SUPER DOG!!!

There was/is a program in the military that has been known by the name of the Super Dog program.

It's also known as Bio Sensor training and is - in a short explanation - early neurological stimulation.  One of our extended family from our last litter asked if we did this with the litter their dog's litter.  We did.

There is an extensive and very interesting article on it at http://www.breedingbetterdogs.com/articles/early_neurological_stimulation_en.php

It is a fairly simple method and takes very little time to accomplish.  Each exercise is 3-5 seconds once a day from day 3 - 16.  The results are well documented and include:

  • Improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate)
  • Stronger heart beats
  • Stronger adrenal glands
  • More tolerance to stress
  • Greater resistance to disease.
Tessa and Jack's litter will also have Bio Sensor training, as well as a few other things that we'll note in other posts!

Great Day on the Delta

We've been trying to get to this post for a while and it seems time just flies by!

After several scheduling tries, on a late August Sunday morning we all were finally available to meet our good friends Rod and Joanie and one of their V's Chloe on the Delta.  After a fantastic and very filling breakfast at the Pirate's Lair we headed out in the aptly dubbed "Miami Vice" boat.

It was a great relaxing morning with even better friends!

Chloe doubles as an otter - I've never seen a dog tread water like she can!  I tried to get it on video, but was too late.  Maybe next time, huh Rod?

Thanks for sharing a great day!

The secret power of Vizsla

As many of you now know, we've had more than our share of recent medical issues.  First with Janet's roading accident and most recently the tumor and my loss of vision one would think we'd be pretty down.  Though we have had our moments of self-pity, they have been surprisingly fleeting.  Why?  Here's my theory.

The secret truth - is two fold.

First - it's virtually impossible not to smile when a counter surfing tail wagging bundle of pure happiness is in your presence!  When I walk in even my bad eye can make out Hank's entire body wiggle from stem to stern like there could be no greater thrill than to see me again!  (This is basically when I go into the garage to run the door down and come right back in the house).

Hankster's - Whatya think Dad?  look

Then there's the full on lap scrunching snuggle!  Who needs a "as sold on TV" blanket with arms in it when there's a Vizsla close by!

Pregnant Tessa napping on Janet's Lap
Secondly - as great as the first is, the hidden beauty of being owned by Vizslas is the world of people that become true friends through the common love of the dogs.  We have received such an outpouring of love from our friends it's almost overwhelming.  We feel truly blessed in knowing the people we have come to know through our dogs.

So there you have it.  The secret is no longer secret.  The secret power of Vizsla is Love.

Tessa's gonna be a MOM!

Yes, yes.  We know.  We planned on going in on Saturday morning to get the ultrasound.  Not as rushed, got the weekend thing going and all.  But I've always been a big believer that IMPATIENCE is a virtue too!  It get's things done darnit!
So with full approval of the family Unit, we asked the Vet and they said come on in late Thursday and they'd fire up the machine for us!

YAY!  We saw several little golden nuggets and it's confirmed - Tessa is most definitely pregnant!  Now I need to see if I can scan these pictures in to a postable format....  hmmm...

Now to the next question - how many???  We know we saw at least four different pups - so our future extended families that will be awaiting your new arrival - RARELY is an ultrasound an accurate count!  We will go back in about 20 days or so for an X-ray and should be able to get a better count.

Thanks everyone for your support and cheerleading!  The wind and stars have aligned!

We'll keep you posted!

Oh, and this litter WILL be nominated for the Pacific Vizsla Futurity!

Still Wating....

Ah the joy of breeding dogs.  You plan and plan - research, more research - then you get to the actual breeding.   A whirlwind of activity and lots of driving is often the norm.  Everyone is full of excitement, and then.....

Tick.......

Tock....

Now the waiting game is going soooooooo slowly!

Tessa has her ultrasound appointment Saturday morning.  We have several really nice folks interested in the litter.  We can't wait to give them good news!

On the upside (or downside for Tessa) she seems to be in the phase of not wanting to eat so much, lots of gurgling, a spreading rib cage and a bit of morning sickness.  :-)))
